One of the leading giants in gaming, Ubisoft, is actively exploring the blockchain technology and all that comes with it – in order to use it for gaming and many other possibilities. As Lidwine Sauer, the director of insights and trends in their lab told IGN before her DICE 2018 speech, the company is preparing for a strategic innovation with blockchain in the focus.
Basically, their ‘lab’ analyzes trends in how the world reacts with technology and prepares for new ways of applying them within Ubisoft. According to the company, blockchain is unique and offers the chance to have real digital collectibles that cannot be replicated at all. In a nutshell, blockchain is a technology that resembles a digital Picasso (even though it is a lot harder to steal something on the blockchain).
Ubisoft’s research has started with AI changes and the basic features of blockchain. However, it has recently extended from these things to blockchain and cryptocurrencies – as well as merging the physical with the digital. The potential embrace of blockchain can give them tons of opportunities for innovation and creation of new games, platforms and services.
As Sauer cited, last year’s Star Trek: Bridge Crew game was the perfect example of how developed the AI (artificial intelligence) voice command capabilities are – and how Ubisoft is changing the personal gaming interface with every new beta test and technology.
Let’s hope blockchain will be Ubisoft’s next move.
