One of the largest retail giants in the United States is in the latest cryptocurrency news for submitting a patent application for a new drone communication system which will be based on blockchain technology. The patent that Walmart files has documents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on August 1 in an attempt to create a unique system.
Speaking of, the system will be based on a drone that encrypts and stores the drone’s operational parameters. The information will be subsequently passed to another drone, which will decrypt, read and then configure to those parameters.
Essentially, Walmart files a patent for a system that will focus on vehicle-to-vehicle communication between unmanned drones – and with that would relay messages, mesh communication networks and allow machines to be aware of each others’ location and bearing.
For those of you who haven’t read about Walmart in blockchain on many best cryptocurrency news sites, the retail giant has been engaged in patenting the blockchain solutions for drones. Since at least 2017, Walmart has been filing numerous patents. As we previously reported in the news, Walmart filed a patent application with the USPTO in May 2017 for a system of “Unmanned Aerial Delivery to Secure Location.”
Earlier this year, the retail giant was in the altcoin news for partnering with IBM and the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to track pharmaceutical shipments with blockchain technology. Additionally, the retail giant made a foray into cryptocurrencies and submitted another patent for its own blockchain based digital currency earlier this month.
The news that Walmart files a patent for blockchain adoption once again went viral on many best cryptocurrency news sites. However, for some users, more interesting is the patent application of Walmart and the USPTO in 2017 for a system that would secure drone communications by storing and sharing information through blockchain technology.
In many ways connected, that system and the current filing by Walmart could definitely be a nice foray for the retail giant in the drone and blockchain segment. In the filing, Walmart suggested that validator notes could offer special permissions – such as for deciding whether a drone is allowed to fly in a given flight zone.
