The lead maintainer at the Monero Project, Riccardo Spagni aka FluffyPony, stepped down from his role at the project because of multiple reasons including centralization concerns from being the front figure of the project as we are reading further in the monero news.
The Monero core team made an announcement on Monday where they revealed the few role changes within the project and previously Spagni was the lead maintainer that approved the commits the new code to the project’s GitHub and making other administrative decisions. The job will not be transferred to Snipa which is a long-time pseudonymous Monero contributor. Spagni will not step down totally since he will not administer Monero’s General Fund wallet. Spagni outlined a few reasons for his departure and the primary one was to ensure decentralization as over the past two years he stepped down from a few leading maintainer roles:
“I’m stepping back as lead maintainer, but continuing on as a maintainer, to further decentralise the project. I’ve been talking about doing this for two years, since I stepped back as lead maintainer on the Monero website and Monero GUI projects, so it should come as no surprise.”
The second reasons involve Tari which is a project where Spagni is listed as a co-founder and he said:
“I plan on continuing to focus on the broader Monero and privacy ecosystem, specifically my work on the Tari project, which will benefit Monero in different ways to what I was accomplishing as lead maintainer.’’
Tari mainly focuses on providing a fast sidechain for transacting tokens including the non-fungible tokens such as collecting cards and it uses the monero blockchain because of its security while it relies on payment channels and transaction pruning in order to guarantee scalability. As per the recent reports, The Monero upgrade led to the proponents who heavily criticized ASICs and pledged to maintain the resistance of XMR as specialized hardware, finally changing the mining algorithm even at a higher cost. RandomX is now the result of that decision and the new proof-of-work algorithm uses a random code execution and memory-intensive techniques that make the use of ASICs unnecessary.
