The well-known hacker Pieter “Mudge” Zatko was recently hired by Twitter as the head of Security as he has DARPA and Google experience, making him the perfect candidate for the job. In our latest crypto news, we take a closer look at who Zatko actually is.
Zatko will perform extensive security reviews and will suggest changes that will further boost the security on the social media platform. After his rise as the popular hacker Pieter “Mudge” Zatko, he worked at DARPA and google. If you remember well, Twitter suffered a massive hack back in July which resulted in more than 100 high profile accounts like Barack Obama, Elon Musk, and more, tweeting out scam messages where they asked people to send BTC.
Looks like the cat is out of the bag.
I’m very excited to be joining the executive team at Twitter!
I truly believe in the mission of (equitably) serving the public conversation.
I will do my best! https://t.co/ZQkhYTXLQZ

About $120,000 worth of BTC was a lot to the scam but Twitter suffered its biggest impact yet which only made users to lose their trust in centralized social media platforms. However today, we can see that Twitter announced a key hire while trying to avoid similar events happening in the future. Twitter added Zatko to his team and he will serve as the Head of Security for Social Network. Zatko was a member of the hacker think tank L0pht Heavy Industries as well as the member of the hacker collective Cult of the Dead Cow. He testified back in 1998 before the Senate about cybersecurity and briefed President Bill Clinton in 2000 about DDos attacks. He was also a project manager for the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency in 2010 but he left in 2013 and started working for Google.
Zatko will conduct 45-60-day reviews of the site and he got a “broad mandate” to suggest changes on how the platform should handle security in all forms. Zatko says that he will focus mostly on information security, physical security, the integrity of the platform as well as engineering:
“They are willing to take some risks. With the challenges of algorithms and algorithmic bias, they are not standing by and waiting until someone else solves the problem.”
Twitter is also working on a decentralized social media model which could serve as the future model of other platforms as well. CEO And co-founder Jack Dorsey is an avid fan of Bitcoin and blockchain and he recently detailed how he thinks both will reshape the conducting of businesses on the market but what will it bring for Twitter as well.
