Hermès reveals its plant for Metaverse fashion show, crypto & NFTs, as the famous fashion brand is setting the basis for its entry into Web3 by filling a trademark application that includes the aforementioned technologies.
The patent includes downloadable software to view, store, and administer virtual items, digital collectibles, cryptocurrencies, and NFTs “for use in online environments,” according to an August 26 filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
It also trademarked “retail shop services including virtual products,” “fashion and trade exhibits in online virtual, augmented, or mixed reality settings,” and “offering an online marketplace for consumers and sellers of virtual goods.”

What is most striking is that the patent includes financial services (virtual currency), the transfer of virtual currency and fundraising, or in the patent’s words:
“Financial services, namely, providing virtual currency for use in connection with virtual goods, namely, digital collectibles and non-fungible tokens (NFTs); financial services, namely, providing electronic transfer of a virtual currency for use in connection with virtual goods, namely, digital collectibles and non-fungible tokens (NFTs); monetary affairs, namely, financial information, management, and analysis services related to virtual goods, namely digital collectibles and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), fundraising and financial sponsorship relating to virtual goods, namely, digital collectibles and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).”
Intentionally or not, with the patent Hermès reveals its plant for Metaverse fashion show, crypto & NFTs.
Following the filing of a lawsuit against Mason Rothschild, the founder of Metabirkins, in January for allegedly utilizing the name of the brand, Birkin, to profit from sales and resales for his NFT Metabirkins line, a fresh trademark application has been made.
Hermés claimed in a 47-page court action against Rothschild that the “MetaBirkins brand simply rips off Hermés’ renowned Birkin trademark by adding the generic prefix’meta’ to the famous trademark Birkin,” giving the impression that the MetaBirkins brand was part of the premium Hermés’ Birkin brand.
The action against Rothschild may be one of the reasons why the business has decided to submit its own safeguards for Metaverse, crypto, and NFT-related goods and tokens.
The premium label is not the first, nor will it be the last, to make moves in the Metaverse.
Earlier this year, Dolce & Gabbana, Etro, Tommy Hilfiger, Estée Lauder, and Elie Saab appeared in Decentraland’s Metaverse Fashion Week, a four-day digital fashion event featuring wearables on virtual runways.
Dune Analytics data indicated last month that prominent companies such as Nike, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Adidas, and Tiffany had gathered a total of $260 million in NFT sales.
