Yuga Labs Warned Of Persistent Hack Threats Targeting NFT Holders

Yuga Labs warned of persistent threats from hackers that are targeting NFT holders and the warning came a few days after the hackers managed to gain access to the PRemint NFT website and stole more than 300 NFTs and $375K worth of ETH so let’s read more today in our latest cryptocurrency news.

Bored Ape Yacht Club creator Yuga Labs warned that there could soon be a coordinated attack that can target multiple non-fungible NFT communities and told its followers that the security team was tracking a persistent threat group that is targeting the community via compromised social media accounts and urged followers to be wary. This is not the first time that the company warned the community of a possible social media attack by hackers and it will certainly not be the last. In June, Gordon Goner who is the founder of Yuga Labs issued a warning of possible incoming attacks on Twitter and after the warning, the Twitter officials started monitoring activity on the accounts and enhanced their security.

Goner said to his investors that the company would never conduct surprise mints which is a popular method that attackers use to lure in victims. The month also saw two Discord groups related to OtherSide and BAYC get compromised and allow scammers to share various phishing links on the official BAYC and Otherside groups on discord. Yuga Labs’ new warning came days after threat actors hacked the NFt paltform PRemint NFT and stole 314 NFTs which made it one of the biggest hacks in 2022.

Premint is an NFT whitelisting service that helps NFT artists access a bigger number of verified NFT collectors and whitelists them for new NFT projects. The NFT services platform touts more than 12K NFT projects with a  database of 2.4 million users. As per the blockchain security company Certik, the thefts happened on Sunday after the hackers inserted a malicious code into the Premint website. The code created a pop-up that prompted users to verify their wallet ownership but then has hackers’ permission to transfer NFT from the victim’s wallets.

Six wallets were identified as falling victim to the attack and contained NFTs like Bored Ape Yacht Club, Oddities, GoblinTown, and Otherside. Premint said it will continue to look into the incident and reminded the users that will never be asked to sign any kind of transaction on the paltform. The platform also changed after the attack and allowed users to log in without the wallets that they claimed will be safer and more convenient.
