If you heard about ICON, you probably know that it is one of the most prosperous blockchain project created by developers from South Korea. The $1.6 billion project has recently secured an official partnership with LINE which is Japan’s largest messaging app supporting more than 200 million monthly active users.
In January this year, media reported that LINE is set to launch a cryptocurrency exchange in 2018. Since then, LINE has continued to explore the blockchain sector and the innovative projects within it. This week, LINE announced that they are partnering with the ICON blockchain protocol through a joint venture called UNCHAIN.
The official press release noted that LINE and ICON will work together to deploy a wide range of dApps that could be used by hundreds of millions of users daily. With the creation of this independent blockchain lab, the development team will begin exploring the massive potential of blockchain technology.
According to the team behind ICON:

At ICON, we’ve been working diligently to work with them to realize this through education, research, and collaboration.”
LINE is currently the most widely used messaging app in Japan. With over 200 million active monthly users, its platform supports sending and receiving messages on a daily basis. With the blockchain, LINE could easily expand to hundreds of millions (more) active users utilizing the ICON infrastructure and the use of dApps.
