The movie theater chain AMC added DOGE and SHIB payments to its mobile app and it also accepts BTC, ETH, and other coins. Since being crowned a meme stock in 2021, AMC Theaters embraced crypto and meme coins like Dogecoin and Shiba Inu which CEO Adam Aron often tweeted about in the past few months which means users can spend them using AMC’s app. Aron tweeted that the company’s mobile app supports payments in both DOGE and SHIB alongside other coins and the support came in integration with crypto payments provider Bitpay with users spending DOGE and SHIB on tickets and gifts cards.

The AMC implemented both coins to the website via the partnership with BitPay and Aron noted that they will reach the mobile app. Aron’s tweet announced the mobile support in his past tweets about the memecoins that racked up thousands of interactions. The AMC stock is down by 3% at a price of $18 and the stock started the year at a price of $26.50 and popped above $29 per share in March but then tumbled. Dogecoin is about 3% in the past 24 hours at a current price of $0.145 per coin as per the data from CoinmarketCap while Shiba Inu is down by less than a percentage while the market is up about 1% over the past day.

AMC’s embrace of crypto started in August 2021 when Aron announced that the company planned to accept BTC payments by the end of the year. Thie list expanded to include the coins like BCH and ETH with social media fan campaigns convincing the company to add DOGE and SHIB to the plans and AMC started accepting doge payments solely for gift cards. The firm launched its own NFT collectibles via the wAX blockchain both in tandem with Spiderman for the AMC shareholders. AMC released The Batman NFTs via Palm and as of now NFTs act as a deed of ownership to a digital item which includes artwork and collectibles.

Aron said that the company will be quite a successful issuer of crypto as well as a redeemer of crypto and started exploring the options.
