The Discord CEO Shared a screenshot of a Metamask connectivity feature for the messaging platform after three months of asking the community how would they feel about a native crypto wallet so let’s read more in our latest cryptocurrency news.
MetaMask is one of the industry’s most popular crypto wallets and has more than 10 million active users as of August this year. Discord doesn’t support the wallet for now but the Discord CEO shared a screenshot of this wallet, leading many to believe that the update to the platform is coming soon. Citron captioned the screenshot with words like “probably nothing” so we can only wait to see what this means.
Imagine a place…
– Built for gamers
– Home to everyone playing the Great Online Game
– Has 150 million MAUs
– Generates $130 million in revenue
– Is a web3 sleeper@mariogabriele & I teamed up on @discord. We imagine the possibilities…https://t.co/8bZRL6dQe8— Packy McCormick (@packyM) November 8, 2021
Citron’s tweet came as a response to a blog dubbed “Discord: Imagine a Place” which was tweeted by Packy McCormick a day ago. He called the platform a coordination platform of choice for all manner of projects such as DAOs, NFTs, crypto investing groups, and startups while also dedicating the section of the piece to discuss the ideas for a Discord-native crypto wallet. This idea came up back in August initially when some users were asked whether they are interested in using Discord native web3 or a wallet. McCormick says that a native wallet would be beneficial for the platform’s users as well as the platform but claimed that it is easier said than done because Discord doesn’t have the crypto capacity right now on its team to pull it all off.

If we see Citron’s tweet as a hint for an upcoming MetaMask integration, the team is looking externally to satisfy its crypto needs. Such connectivity would be a huge boon to various NFT and DEfi projects that are coordinating themselves on Discord servers.
As recently reported, Check Point Research discovered a crypto phishing campaign that saw the funds stolen from MetaMask and Phantom wallets as both Pancake and Metamask websites were mimicked in the scam. The research showed a huge search engine phishing campaign that has resulted in half of a million dollars worth of crypto being stolen from the users. The scam was hitting MetaMask and Phantom users as two popular wallets with the scammer’s mimicking legitimate websites almost as they would the original.
