Pornhub will now accept cryptocurrencies only after Mastercard and Visa backed off of the adult website a few days ago. PornHub will now accept crypto for its premium services as we are reading more in today’s crypto news.
Visa and Mastercard cut off Pornhub and declined all payments from customers that wanted to subscript to the premium adult website channel and the move came in response after the New York Times reports that showed cases of children pornography and rape videos on their site. PornHub changed its policies in order to fight against the abuse and said it was accepting crypto payments as a default payment method.
It seems that the website which is the biggest adult website is accepting crypto for its premium services with the move being noticed after visa and Mastercard backed off of the platform. The credit card companies tried to avoid getting in the scandal that got PornHub involved with rape videos and children engaging in sex as well.

The New York Times article detailed cases of videos that were being uploaded that went against the initial policies of the website. Visa and Mastercard’s decision decided to block funds to the platform and back in 2019, PayPal started blocking payments to the platform as well.
Soon after Pornhub started accepting Tron, Tether, Verge but now it started accepting Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dash, Ethereum Classic, Monero, NEM, Litecoin, and Zcash. Pornhub got its traffic increased since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching a number of 3.6 billion according to the SimilarWeb.com analysis website. Allie Eve Know, the adult performer and crypto veteran noted:
“It’s unfortunate that Visa and Mastercard are playing these sort of legal games to hold Pornhub accountable. Performers have for a long time been saying that Pornhub needs to be accountable and follow the law.”
She also said that a move like this from big credit card companies will hurt more than just PornHub. The performers will not be able to take out their money which is problematic because a lot of people use the platform as their main income source:
“it hurts the content creators because that is where the money was going.”
The business of the website depends on advertising revenue which will not be impacted by the move by the credit card companies. The website is a subsidiary of the Luxembourg-based MindGeek which is actually an IT platform for streaming entertainment companies. Ponrhub also announced plenty of changes to clean up its site including uploads from verified content creators, banning downloads and expanding moderation of the website.
