A new study reveals some very positive statistics about the topics of cryptocurrency and blockchain in the top universities in the world. According to a study from the exchange Coinbase which was published on Wednesday, the top 50 universities in the world have more than 56% of blockchain and/or crypto classes available in their program.
The cryptocurrency exchange’s study is featured in the latest cryptocurrency news. It reveals that after looking at the world’s top 50 universities (as per the US News & World Report ranking), more than half of them offer crypto and blockchain classes. Last year, Coinbase found that 42% of the universities offered such classes.
As per the study, “the original Coinbase research includes a Qriously survey of 735 U.S. students age 16 and older, a comprehensive review of courses at 50 international universities, analysis of research citations and non-coursework offerings, and interviews with professors and students.”
As many best cryptocurrency news sites reported, Coinbase worked with the survey site Qriously to examine 735 students aged 16 and older, finding that there has been a 6% rise in the student interest in crypto or blockchain coursework. According to last year’s Coinbase study, 28% of the respondents said they would be interested in such classes.
“This year, 56 percent of the top global universities now offer at least one course on crypto or blockchain, compared to 42 percent in 2018,” the study reveals.
While the Bitcoin and altcoin news today show new drops, it seems like the interest towards crypto in sectors like education is increasing. Of special note, as the Coinbase study reveals, is the percent of cryptocurrency or blockchain classes that are not falling under the traditional computer-science label. Coinbase noted that 70% of these classes pertained to other departments – including finance, economics, law or engineering.
“This interest in studying crypto at colleges and universities speaks volumes about the future of money,” Coinbase noted, stating that student clubs are another driver of academic interest.
As the new study reveals, even 41 of the top 50 universities had student-run groups related to the topics of crypto or blockchain. Named “The 2019 Leaders in Crypto Education” the study asked students directly about their thoughts on crypto and blockchain.
