Booking your travel is now something that anyone can do online. The intermediaries (travel companies) are rapidly vanishing and travelers nowadays are smarter and more resourceful. Still, there are a couple of booking websites that get the largest share of the pie – Expedia and Priceline (who own all the other major sites).
Well, guess what?
Blockchain can make this revolution even better – and change this from scratch. According to a company named TravelChain, booking travel can bypass the current monopoly in the US and incentivize the users to post feedback on travel using TravelTokens – which is the internal cryptocurrency for the system.
The team at TravelChain has even coined a term ‘travelution’ which refers to the revolution of traveling that we are about to see thanks to blockchain technology. As they announced at BlockShow Asia this year, there are endless ways that could benefit today’s travelers.
The BlockShow Asia was a great step for the company. According to their comment which said “Amazing event, best we have ever participated in! Good people, good organization, many important contacts and meetings. We were able to meet 2 new advisors (one of them Christoph Herring from the Bitshares committee) and talk to many investors,”, it is evident that their goals are going in the right direction.
However, instead of Ethereum, TravelChain is adopting their Graphene-based technology as a system that will provide smoother and faster transactions, especially because of the slowing on the Ethereum Blockchain.
The TravelTokens in the app can also be converted to flat currencies on exchanges – or alternatively used within the system. Mainly, the benefit is to allow travelers a new possibility to skip the domination by for-profit companies and travel cheaper and easier to every part of the world.
