If you are rubbing shoulders in airports and are a frequent flyer, you may consider flying with Singapore Airlines more often. According to a recent announcement, one of the world’s leading airline operators is planning to launch a blockchain-based loyalty wallet app that will improve the flyer experience while making most of the accumulated air miles.
The announcement also detailed the features of the app. There will be a digital wallet based on blockchain technology that will enable travelers to easily spend their air miles at retail partners. The application is believe to help with the ‘everyday spending’ of each passenger using the app. It will support ‘point-of-sale’ transactions and retail merchants, according to the announcement.
Singapore Airlines will also employ a private blockchain that will see the participating merchants and partners for its digital loyalty program. The airline operator has already gotten a confirmation of the successful deployment of the blockchain technology from their partner, Microsoft, after testing KPMG’s Digital Village in Singapore.
The Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong stated:
“This groundbreaking development in which we will be using blockchain technology to ‘digitalise’ KrisFlyer miles is a demonstration of the investment we are making to significantly enhance the digital side of our business for the benefit of our customers.”
The app will supposedly roll out for customers in about six months – and Singapore Airlines is already preparing for the start. The initiative to join the blockchain space says a lot for the cryptocurrency market and gives immense value to investors.
