Ex-Nissan CEO Pays $500K In BTC To Escape From Japan: Report

The Ex-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn made a dramatic house arrest escape in Japan last year, now paid the extraction team half a million worth of Bitcoin as we are reading more in the upcoming Bitcoin news today.

The Ex-Nissan CEO arranged for a payment to Peter Taylor who is one of the two men that assisted the chairman in fleeing Japan and received $500,000 in BTC through the US-based crypto exchange Coinbase. Taylor and his father Michael Taylor smuggled Ghosn out of Japan in a musical instrument case and helped him to get transported to an international Airport in Osaka.

Ghosn paid the Taylors $1.36 million in total for the services related to his extraction from Japan and relocation to Lebanon where he owns citizenship. The Bitcoin payment was made in installments from January to May after he managed to escape on December 29. Japanese investigators said that Ghosn wired $860,000 to a company that is owned by Peter Taylor as a part of the initial payment. The Taylors were in US custody since they got arrested in May at the request from the Japanese government while Ghosn is free in Lebanon that doesn’t have an extradition agreement with Japan.

Carlos Ghosn was arrested four times previously on charges related to financial crimes at Nissan which resulted in solitary confinement, detainment, interrogations without a lawyer, and house arrest. His lawyers labeled the treatment as “hostage justice” accusing Japan’s authorities of forcing confessions through extended detainment. The Ex-Nissan CEO was under arrest in Tokyo since April when the Taylors arrived disguised of attending a violin concert. Before Ghosn’s escape, both men spoke in person which could have influenced the decision to flee Japan. Karpeles then chose to face the system and got acquitted of major charges related to Mt.Gox but got charged with mishandling electronic funds.
