Dorsey quit Twitter to focus his energy on BTC and said that Facebook’s plan to release its own crypto was flawed from the start and should spend time on BTC.
Facebook announced plans for its own crypto over two years ago but it then failed because of regulatory hurdles. The project later changed its name to Diem and it came to an end last week when it announced it will sell $200 million worth of assets to Silvergate Capital as the project suffered many setbacks over the past year as those that work on the coin quit. The internet has a native currency for itself opens a lot of doors for internet companies, tech companies but also for everyday people that don’t use the currency systems that exist.
He added that Facebook wasted time and efforts working on the project known as Libra and that it would have been a better idea to spend time on BTC and make it more accessible for more people across the world. Dorsey’s other company Block also purchased BTC and its popular product Cash App which allows users to buy the coin.
Microstrategy helped propel BTC into 2020 which in turn helped to elevate the asset price when the company started buying BTC as a part of their investment strategy and now owns 124,391 BTC or $4.7 billion worth of it. Saylor noted that BTC is an “egalitarian” during the interview and said the crypto will provide Real value going forward for financial services companies going forward. Dorsey noted that if a company wants to use BTC it should look critically at its business and what it can learn from crypto before the application within either purchasing it or utilizing it some other way.
