Novi and WhatsApp are going to work on a trial stablecoin payment option in the US for a limited number of people as per the reports that we have in today’s crypto news.
Meta’s crypto project Novi announced that only a limited number of people in the US will be able to send crypto via WhatsApp:
“There’s a new way to try the Novi digital wallet,” said Stephane Kasriel, Novi’s project lead. “Starting today, a limited number of people in the U.S. will be able to send and receive money using Novi on WhatsApp.”

Marketing materials that accompany the announcement suggest trial users are going to be able to send and receive USD-pegged stablecoin Pax dollar. Novi and Whatsapp will embark on the new journey soon. Novi is Meta’s formerly Facebook crypto wallet and it was initially called Libra but then Diem and was swamped with failed partnership and a wave of C-Suite departures. The project’s co-creator even left the project last month.
As reported recently, Diem is a facebook-backed crypto project which responded to attempts by the United States Senate to halt the launch of its Novi wallet by distancing itself from the social media platform. The crypto project launched the Novi wallet and said it aimed to help people send and receive money abroad, in a fast, secure, and no-fee manner. However, this was met with some stiff opposition from the US lawmakers who wrote a letter to the CEO of the platform Mark Zuckerberg to discontinue the digital wallet project. But the Diem stablecoin distanced itself from Facebook, or so it claims.
The Novi wallet continued despite the hostilities from the senate and got listed on Google App and Apple app stores for download. Diem responded to the senator’s letter stating that the legislators could have misunderstood the relationship between the stablecoin and Facebook while also saying that the social media entity were two entirely different organizations.
Senator Elizabeth Warren says that Facebook’s wallet should be stopped from operating while the wallet launch didn’t include Diem, the long-delayed cryptocurrency. Hours after Facebook went live with the wallet, Warren and four other senators from her party warned the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg, demanding that he should discontinue the program.
