If you thought that cryptocurrencies are only used for trading and investing, think twice after you read this latest news.
Becoming an Antiguan Barbudian has never been easier than nowadays. Currently, you need only a little over 12 Bitcoins (BTC) to pay for this citizenship. The news went viral after Antigua and Barbuda’s Citizenship by Investment Program Act was amended by the country’s parliament. This allowed payments to be made using Bitcoin as well as other cryptocurrencies.
Initially announced by the country’s Prime Minister and Minister of Finance & Corporate Governance & Public-Private Partnerships, Hon. Gaston Browne, this resolution was made to help citizenship seekers who own cryptocurrencies.
On top of this, there is no doubt that this program will attract even more people from all around the globe. As Browne told the country’s parliament following the decision:
“And the truth is too, it expands your market because we have a number of cryptocurrency investors who may be quite willing to take up our citizenship but would only pay in cryptocurrencies. If you do not accept the cryptocurrency then you would be literally locked out of that market.”
In order to be eligible for citizenship, individuals must choose to either invest or contribute in the country’s amounts which range from $400,000 and $1.5 million – or make a contribution that totals $100,000 to the country’s National Development Fund.
