Bitcoin just removed the phrase ‘low transaction fees’ from its homepage. On Bitcoin.org, you can now see the slight changes on how the website refers to the speed of transactions which raised a lot of eyebrows and made people ask questions.
In a nutshell, Bitcoin.org doesn’t call its transactions ‘fast’ anymore. The change is best seen on the following image.
It’s true that Bitcoin has evolved over the last couple of years, but many people are wondering if this is the right move to make, especially because both of the features that are now removed have served as a competitive advantage to the network.
What’s also interesting is that while the changes on the website are made and are made appropriate, the introductory video that is placed on the official website (and watched over 5 million times) still mentions the ‘low fees’ twice.
Here it is so you can see:

Some experts have already raised their voices regarding the situation. Cobra-Bitcoin, a contributor in the BTC GitHub panel has already pointed out their approach on the whole thing.
“…the entire site has always emphasised low fees. Obviously we don’t expect some insanely low fee, but the current fees make it impossible for reasonable people to transact with each other. I don’t know what’s gone wrong, but I don’t think the correct solution is to change the site to focus on the “uncensorable” aspect. We’d have to go deep into lots of pages where low fees and “fast” transactions are mentioned and do translations for everything. Fees were supposed to come down with Segwit anyway.”
It seems that cryptocurrencies have become so popular that they want to earn on the transaction fees – whether they like it or not.
