Twitter named ex Zcash developer Jay Graber to lead the initaitive “develop an open and decentralized standard for social media” and the network is called Bluesky as we are reading more in our latest Zcash news today.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is a major fan of Bitcoin and his social media platform relied on crypto developers to provide a better direction for the project. Now, Twitter named ex Zcash developer Jay Graber to lead Bluesky which aims to develop an open and decentralized standard for social media. Graber was welcomed by Dorsey this morning.
Jay will be leading @bluesky!
Another step towards decentralizing Twitter and social media.
Now we can move much faster, and through code. https://t.co/9RLR4Je8GE

The former Zcash developer authored an ecosystem review for the product which included contributions from members of the Protocol labs that work on the InetrPlanetary File system and Filecoin Network too. In addition to IPFS and other decentralized protocols, the paper explored tokens like Brave’s Basic Attention Token while the ecosystem review provided some more details as to where the Bluesky project will head out and whether the product will incorporate tokenized elements.
It is also unclear what direction of the crypto-infused social network could go. Dorsey however is a strong bitcoin proponent and said that he wants to make it the internet’s native currency. His aversion to Ethereum also runs deep and any integration with BAT or other Etheruem-based tokens would be at odds with his personal feelings aside from the fact that Twitter has already used Ethereum for his own NFTs. Graber said that she became involved with Bluesky after creating a centralized event site, Happening in 2019 with the goal of iterating on UX to get user adoption and to then decentralize it. She said:
“I had not gotten significant traction before the pandemic hit, so I put it on hold and offered to write a comprehensive decentralized social ecosystem report to help inform BlueSky’s process, and create a resource for other builders entering the space.”
Twitter got impressed by her research and named Graber to the role after a half of a year search. Her first order of business will be to put together a team that can develop and boost the adoption of technologies for an open and decentralized public conversation. Twitter and Facebook have dinged themselves for their roles moderating conversation after banning prominent accounts like the one of President Donald Trump. Graber wrote:
“I look forward to partnering closely with Twitter and other companies as we embark on this journey. It won’t happen overnight, but we’ll share our progress along the way.”
