The Discord CEO takes back his comments made on the crypto wallet integration following a strong outrage from the community only three days after the announcement so let’s read more in our upcoming crypto news today.
Jason Citron, the Discord CEO tweeted an image featuring the Discord layout and the integration with crypto wallets like Connect and MetaMask. A few days later, he walked back on his comments adding that the platform has no current plans to ship the wallet integration. The reasons remain unclear but based on the wave of negative responses to the tweet, the features were likely halted due to the strong pushback from the community, as one comment read:

Another user responded to a tweet saying “don’t make me do it, Jason” and added a screenshot showing one user canceling its subscription. Across the 3000 replies, a number of users followed suit and threatened to cancel their subscriptions. Another spokesperson from Discord noted that the platform has no plans to ship the crypto integration and added that Discord is excited about the potential for web3 technology with its many other ways to come together on the messaging platform, especially those that are organized around creator-focused projects and are environmentally friendly.

After the $500 million investment by Dragoneer Investment Group, the platform is now valued at $15 billion. As Discord grows beyond its roots in the world of gaming, crypto communities are playing an even more influential role in how this platform evolves. It’s still difficult to quantify the number of servers compared to all servers but Citron hinted that the company is following the demands of the fast-growing user base.
