Etherscan Creators Launched Blockscan Chat Instant Messenger

Etherscan creators launched Blockscan chat- an Ethereum instant messenger platform for users to message each other wallet to wallet. In our latest Ethereum news, we are reading more about this new platform.

In a bid to expand use cases for DEFI, the Etherscan creators released Blockscan Chat in beta. This is a messaging platform for users to instantly message each other wallet to wallet. In order to use it, you have to connect to an ETH wallet like MetaMask. The message recipients with ETH addresses will get a notification via a block explorer and some people already referred to the tool as Ethereum Instant Messenger which is a kind of a throwback to the AOL instant messenger.

Why exactly will you leverage the Ethereum blockchain o send messages instead of your phone? Well, the answer might be because of the ability to maintain control of the data use censorship-resistance platforms, and communicate without fear of surveillance. This is not quite what is going on here, however. The service runs on Etherscan’s servers and messages that don’t get stored on a blockchain so it doesn’t have the benefits of decentralization.

The terms of service that could sound familiar to those that used centralized messaging, state that this could all go away:

In the event of any Force Majeure Event, breach of these Terms, or any other event that would make provision of the Services commercially unreasonable for Company, we may, at our sole discretion and without liability to you, with or without prior notice, suspend your access to all or a portion of our Services.”

With that being said, Blockscan has a pretty good track record in the space of making tools that anyone can use. The Ethereum users are already talking about its use cases like wallet-to-wallet messaging using it for NFT marketplaces and allowing bidders to directly message the asset owners. According to Ryan Sean Adams of Bankless, you could even communicate with hackers which is useful in cases when you are trying to negotiate the return of the funds.

As recently reported, The Ethereum layer-two scaling solutions provider Optimism announced a collaboration with Etherscan and in the announcement, the technology provider declared it a huge usability milestone, stating that it makes it highly technical information that will be easily searchable and human-readable. The company provides L2 scaling technology called Optimistic rollups that builds on zero-knowledge proofs but changes the consensus mechanism so that the network assumes that all of them are correct.
