For those of you who don’t know or don’t follow our blockchain news, Salesforce is a major global customer relationship management (CRM) firm which has its own blockchain.
As announced on November 19, Lamborghini can now trace, certify as well as authenticate heritage cars in a faster and more secure way using its blockchain platform. Launched in May this year, the Hyperledger-based blockchain platform that Salesforce is using will be implemented to create a trusted network between multiple participants for certification checks during a resale of the brand.
Typically, every time a Lamborghini is resold, the vehicle goes through 800 to around 1,000 certification inspections which take place at the headquarters of the company which is the Sant’Agata Bolognese region in Italy, as the press release notes.
The process will require the car brand to work with a huge network of resources including photographers, dealerships, repair shops, auction houses and media sources – registering the full history and verifying all of the parts and service history for each vehicle.
Specifically, the firms note that each Lamborghini vehicle will now come with an immutable record of service. This will include major details including prior ownership and restoration. The new system will also protect Lamborghini cars against potential counterfeiting as all authentication checks will be managed by Lamborghini and its partner networks, as per the press release.
The use of the Salesforce blockchain is obviously a big step for both brands. Before this news, we saw that there was a pilot project that involved its first vehicle certified using the Salesforce blockchain. In August 2019, the one of a kind Lamborghini Aventador S was certified on the Salesforce Blockchain for a show during the 2019 Monterrey Car Week in California – protecting the car as a unique work of art.
Obviously, this is not the first or last use of blockchain technology in the automotive field. The cryptocurrency news and updates are always full of news about blockchain adoption – and Lamborghini’s adoption is a big step for the crypto/fintech industries as a whole.
