Bitcoin dominance is holding near 60%, and the latest market data shows investors are still choosing BTC over almost everything else in crypto.
According to CoinGecko, Bitcoin now accounts for 59.54% of the total crypto market, which is worth about $2.71 trillion.
With Bitcoin’s own market value at roughly $1.62 trillion, the gap between BTC and the rest of the field is huge.
So why is money staying concentrated in Bitcoin, and what could it mean for the months ahead?
What Is Bitcoin Dominance?
Bitcoin dominance measures BTC’s share of the total value of all cryptocurrencies.
When dominance rises, Bitcoin is outperforming the wider market. When it falls, capital is rotating into altcoins.
It is one of the simplest ways to read market sentiment. A high reading usually signals that investors prefer the asset they see as the safest and most liquid.
At just under 60%, Bitcoin is worth more than every other cryptocurrency combined, including stablecoins.
CoinGecko data shows just how wide that lead has become across the largest assets:
- Bitcoin: 59.54% share
- Ethereum: 10.91% share
- Two largest stablecoins combined: about 9.2% share
- XRP: 3.05% share
- Solana: 2.07% share
Bitcoin’s market share is more than five times larger than Ethereum’s, the second-largest crypto asset.
Combined, the next four largest assets on that list still add up to less than half of Bitcoin’s share. Even after years of new token launches, no rival has come close to challenging BTC’s position at the top of the market.
We believe that gap reflects a market that increasingly treats Bitcoin as its own asset class, rather than just one token among thousands.
Why Has Bitcoin Held Up Better Than Altcoins?
The clearest evidence is how each asset has handled the pullback from its record high.
Bitcoin is trading at about $80,480, roughly 36% below its all-time high of $126,080 from October 6, 2025.
Ethereum, at around $2,428, is about 51% below its August 2025 peak of $4,946. Solana, near $95, is about 68% below its January 2025 record.
XRP, at $1.31, sits about 64% below its July 2025 high.
Over the past 30 days, Bitcoin is down 6.5%, while Ethereum fell 10.9%, XRP dropped 13.4% and Solana slid 21.4%.
In other words, Bitcoin has fallen the least in every timeframe that matters. That is exactly how a market leader should behave during a correction.
What Is Driving the Flight to Bitcoin?
We see three main forces behind Bitcoin’s strong dominance.
First, institutional demand flows overwhelmingly into Bitcoin. US spot Bitcoin ETFs have attracted around $56.5 billion in cumulative net inflows since launch, as we covered in our Bitcoin ETF news report.
Second, corporate treasuries keep buying. Strategy now holds 849,327 BTC, as detailed in our look at the Bitcoin treasury giant’s latest purchase.
Third, Bitcoin’s fixed 21 million supply and deep liquidity make it the natural first stop for new money entering crypto.
Regulatory clarity is also helping. Clearer rules in the US, Europe and the UK are making it easier for traditional institutions to hold Bitcoin directly.
Why Do Stablecoins Matter for Dominance?
Stablecoins are an often-overlooked part of the dominance story.
Based on CoinGecko’s market share data, the two largest stablecoins together represent about 9.2% of the market, or roughly $249 billion.
That capital is already sitting inside crypto, parked in dollar-pegged tokens and ready to be deployed.
We see that as potential fuel. When sentiment improves, stablecoin balances are one of the fastest routes for new buying pressure to reach Bitcoin.
Daily trading activity remains healthy too, with total crypto volume of about $98.5 billion over the past 24 hours.
Is Altcoin Season Coming?
Many traders watch dominance for signs of an “altcoin season,” when smaller tokens outperform.
There are early signs of life. Ethereum gained about 5.9% over the past 24 hours, outpacing Bitcoin’s 3.4% move, and is up 2.6% over the past week.
The ETH/BTC ratio, which compares Ethereum’s price to Bitcoin’s, stands at about 0.030. That means one Ether buys only around three hundredths of a Bitcoin.
Still, one strong day does not change the bigger trend. Over the past month, Bitcoin has clearly outperformed the major altcoins.
We believe any rotation into altcoins is more likely to come after Bitcoin makes a decisive move higher, not before. Many traders expect profits from a Bitcoin rally to flow into riskier tokens only once BTC has led the way.
What Does High Dominance Mean for Bitcoin’s Next Move?
A dominant Bitcoin is a healthy Bitcoin.
When capital concentrates in BTC during a correction, it shows conviction rather than panic. Investors are not leaving crypto; they are consolidating into its strongest asset.
That fits the wider picture we outlined in our analysis of the Bitcoin 4 year cycle, where a shallower drawdown suggests a stronger buyer base than in past cycles.
Key things to watch include whether dominance holds near 60%, whether ETF flows turn steadily positive again, and whether Bitcoin can reclaim the $81,000 area it briefly topped this week.
The coming days will reveal whether Bitcoin’s commanding market share becomes the launchpad for its next leg higher.
