“I’ll take you to the crypto shop, I’ll let you lick the Bitcoin-pop.” is a chorus that is now more fit for one of the most popular rappers in the world, 50 Cent.
On Tuesday this week, the celebrity gossip site TMZ reported that the famous rapper named Curtis JAckson had garnered about 700 BTC after moving to accept cryptocurrency payments for his new album. At the time, 50 Cent was accepting payments through the popular processor startup BitPay.
What was $400k some time ago is now worth somewhere between $7 and $9 million in Bitcoin, according to the source. The rapper himself confirmed the TMZ article, posting its text to his Instagram profile and writing “Not Bad for a kid from South Side, I’m so proud of me.”

50 Cent has a history with enterpreneurial success but also some losses this year. He is however an early investor in Glaceau, which Coca-Cola acquired for $4.1 billion and has an extensive portfolio that includes his very own clothing line, diet supplements as well as real estate.
With taking the step to accept Bitcoin for the album, he joined the ranks of other musicians who have made similar moves in the past, including the names of Bjork and the rock group Mastodon.
Way to go, Curtis! Let’s just hope that you are mentioning Bitcoin in some of your new album hits!
