The English Premier League football team West Ham United has turned to blockchain. As the latest cryptocurrency news show, West Ham adopts crypto as its own cryptocurrency token which is powered by Socios.com and will allow the 40 million supporters of the club to vote on decisions and gain access to exclusive rewards.
The fan token initiative has been adopted by many popular football tams in Europe including Juventus and Paris St. Germain and comes in a wave of mainstream blockchain adoption. The news that West Ham adopts crypto has been well accepted by the fans community, as you can see from the Twitter post below.

The token will be an official token of West Ham United which will launch in time for the 2019/2020 season where fans will be able to buy, collect as well as “hunt” for fan tokens. As the announcement notes, the more tokens they collect – the more influence they will have over club decisions.
The coming altcoin news from the club also show that once West Ham adopts crypto, the tokens will be issued by the blockchain platform Socios.com and will be tradable against the platform’s native cryptocurrency ChiliZ (CHZ).

The official announcement that West Ham adopts crypto was also made by the club, where they described the new blockchain initiative as:
“A first-of-its-kind mobile app for football fans, where fans acquire the ability to vote – by buying, earning or hunting for Fan Tokens – on selected club decisions, earn club rewards and compete for once-in-a-lifetime experiences.”
For those of you who don’t know, Socios.com is a “new app for football fans” and a blockchain platform that gives users access to voting rights to their favorite clubs. The platform has inked deals with European mega-clubs such as Juventus and Paris Saint Germain (PSG) so far – but West Ham United is the first English Premier League club to sign up.
The platform’s native CHZ token has already been backed by companies like Binance and Bancor, both investing in it. The news that West Ham adopts crypto showed another mainstream partnership coming in the blockchain space and in the UK recently. This comes after the best cryptocurrency news sites sharing that Jaguar Land Rover inked a deal with the cryptocurrency platform IOTA earlier this week.
