The United States Air Force acting jointly with the Department of Defense has given a contract to Fluree to develop a blockchain-based communication platform. This project is part of the technology innovation program, named AFWERX which is a program of the United States Air Force.
As per the latest blockchain news, the specialized field of Fluree is permissioned blockchain systems. It is tasked with producing a network that can serve multiple roles for the United States Air Force, and also to provide capabilities for other branches of the United States Armed Forces and the partners of the USA around the world. Brian Platz, Fluree co-CEO stated:
“Fluree is uniquely suited to provide a distributed communication network that supports the interoperability and scalability requirements of both legacy and evolving government systems.”
Fluree was founded in 2016 by Brian Paltz and Andrew J. Filipowski. The company is based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and has reminded a small player in the blockchain space. It released its blockchain database in August of 2018 and in June of 2019 got a seed funding worth of $4.7 million.
The partnership between the company and the United States Air Force is the most important accomplishment for the company to this day. There is no doubt that the company will utilize this huge achievement as a stepping ladder for further growth. Fluree is known also by another thing which is its partnership with the consulting firm Deloitte, which can make the way for even more partnerships. The sole fact that the United States Air Force choose a permissioned platform can cause the wrath of blockchain purists, while the preference is not odd at all having in mind its special security needs and the nascent state of distributed ledger technology.
Military strategists for quite some time supported blockchain use. Distributed ledger technology offers many advantages in comparison to the legacy centralized systems, that are wildly important for achieving success in contemporary warfare. Contemporary militaries are among the biggest organizations in the world, with huge, complex supply chains and logistics networks. Just like in retail, blockchain technology pose an opportunity for these systems to become wildly more efficient. Blockchain also can deliver a highly greater level of security and transparency for these processes.
