The Immutable game announced layoffs in the latest small reorganization in the company so let’s have a closer look at today’s latest blockchain news.
The Australian-based studio Immutable decided to lay off developers that are working on the crypto game Gods Unchained and one of the laid-off employees includes a senior game designer amid the slump in crypto prices. James Wakeham worked as a lead designer of the crypto game called Gods Unchained a blockchain-based trading card game and he stated that he and a bunch of other people were let go and that Wakeham is looking for a new job.
The layoffs were announced on Monday at a new meeting and affected 6% of the company’s workforce. After the latest round of fundraising they secured $200 million, Immutable touted a valuation of $2.5 billion, and the startup behind Immutable X as a layer 2 scaling solution, designed for games and NFTs used by the companies including TikTok and Gamestop which also launched an NFT marketplace. The CEO of Immutable James Ferguson said that the company is still in a fantastic position.
Somewhere else, Immutable made it clear that despite the layoffs it has no plans to slow down on hiring new employees when it comes to working on Gods Unchained or the upcoming action role-playing game Guild of Guardians. The spokesperson for the US branch said:
“We are actively increasing hires across product, engineering, and tokenomics in Gods Unchained as we focus on scaling it to mainstream and beyond. We have made the decision to conduct a small reorganization within Gods Unchained to help better enable us to achieve our goal of creating the next generation of web3 games.”
Immutable grew to 280 employees from 180 at the start of the year and they said that the Australia-based company is on track to grow the headcount to 360 employees in the next five months. Wakeham explained that he had to let go of the employees due to the harsh crypto market conditions and noted:
“They have a very long runway. They decided that a bunch of the people who were working on the game weren’t supporting where the product needs to go next.”
